During the period 2015-2017, the PUPR Ministry has allocated a budget of Rp 18.54 trillion for road and bridge construction in the Province and West Papua. Papua Trans Road and Papua's 4.357 km border crossing are expected to be completed by 2018.
It has seven segments of development stage, namely Jayapura-Wamena-Mulia, Jayapura-Sarmi, Jayapura-Hamadi-Holtekamp-Papua New Guinea Border, Merauke-Waropko, Timika-Mappurujaya-Pomaka, Nabire-Waghete-Enarotali, and Serui-Menawi -Subeba.
Citing the PU website, the road is expected to open up isolated areas, suppress price weaknesses, and increase connectivity between regions in Papua.
