Noken is a unique bag typical of Papua made of yarn or woven bark. Being "compulsory" equipment for people there for innate carrying. Papuans usually use it to carry agricultural products such as vegetables, tubers and also to bring merchandise to the Papuan noken market.
Because of its uniqueness that is brought with the head, this noken is registered to UNESCO as one of the traditional works and cultural heritage of the world and on 4 December 2012, the typical Papuan community is defined as the UNESCO heritage of non-cultural heritage of Indonesia.
"This UNESCO recognition will encourage efforts to protect and develop the cultural heritage of Noken, owned by over 250 ethnic groups in the provinces of Papua and West Papua".
